Psychotherapy Approaches.

The approach I use in my professional practice varies as to best fit your needs, goals and aims. I have years of practical and theoretical experience, that allows me to provide effective counseling and psychotherapy for adults, children and adolescents. I have many years of experience helping people become less anxious and depressed, gain self-confidence, become more successful in their lives and have more satisfying relationships. I will work with you to tailor a therapy style that is comprehensive and sensitive to your needs.

I have wide range of professional knowledge and practical therapeutic techniques that have proven to be helpful. Deciding to seek psychotherapy is an important first step. In therapy my standard is to create a non-judgmental, empathic, and supportive environment. A brief summary of my most commonly used methods is listed below.

  1. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is insight oriented, face-to-face psychotherapy based on psychoanalytic principles. This approach explores connections between early life experiences and present issues or concerns; creates opportunities for “corrective experiences” to promote growth and healing; encourages increased self-awareness and self-acceptance.
  2. Mentalization-based Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder. Mentalization based therapy for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the your ability to “mentalize,” or recognize thoughts, feelings, wishes, and desires, and see how these internal states are related to behavior.
  3. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. Depressed or anxious people often frame as truth a world view which is rooted in personal feelings rather than in reality. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy challenges these interpretations and helps clients develop new thoughts and interactions.

Sessions may be scheduled from one to three days per week, with greater frequency allowing for more in-depth treatment. I will work with you to create a schedule that best fits your needs and goals. Please feel free to contact Elena if you have further questions.
